Getting to El Viejo Molino
If you would prefer a taxi to hiring a car then we can arrange a local taxi service to meet you from your airport.
The house is a few minutes from Jabugo, a small town, some 15 minutes from Aracena, the main town in the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche National Park. It is in the Spanish province of Andalucia not far from Portugal to the West and Extremadura to the North.
Approaching from Sevilla
Directions from Sevilla airport:
Leave the airport following signs E5 NIV to Sevilla and Cádiz staying in the right lane.
2.3kms (according to my car) from the airport turn right following signs for I. Cartuja, Huelva and Mérida which joins the dual carriageway that runs around Sevilla.
13 kms from the airport, just after the Estadio Olímpico (on your left), at the fourth roundabout, take the turning for Todas Direcciones onto the SE30.
Just over 2 kms along the flyover take the first right turn. It is signed for the motorway (A66 / E803) for Mérida and Portugal.
Turn off the motorway following signs to Aracena and Portugal. You will be briefly on the N630 where you will soon see a right turn dropping down off it signed as the N433 to Aracena and Portugal.
Having reached Aracena, the major town of the Sierra, you carry on for another 15 minutes or so on the N433 to Galaroza. The road falls steeply through Galaroza for a kilometre or so until it flattens out at the bottom of the town. First you cross a blue-railed bridge before the sign announcing the end of Galaroza appears on your right. The road climbs steeply now past a cerámica, El Bao, and a major turning appears towards the top of the hill. You want the second exit signposted to Huelva, the N435. Bear right as you come off the main road and turn right on to the N435 signposted to Jabugo. The road continues to climb for 2 kilometres through pine forest until you reach the turn off to Jabugo on your right. You are now in Jabugo. The remaining directions will be provided on confirmation of a booking.
The journey from Sevilla airport to the house takes almost exactly 90 minutes.
Approaching from Madrid
If coming from Madrid you need to find your way to the E90/A5. This starts in a south-westerly direction and at Navalmoral de la Mata drops South. Proceed through Trujillo, which has a lovely old Parador, a converted convent, and at Mérida, an old roman town which is well worth a visit, turn due south on the E803/A66/N630.
There are various routes from here but probably the quickest is to come off this road at Zafra and find the EX101 to Fregenal de la Sierra. Here you join the N435 travelling south and you stay on this road all the way to Jabugo. The turn off to Jabugo is 2 kilometres after the N435/N433 junction.
The journey from Barajas, the Madrid airport, takes about 4 and a half hours.
Approaching from Badajoz
Travelling South on the N435 you will come to the N433/435 junction. After this junction the road climbs for 2 kilometres through pine forest until you reach the turn off to Jabugo on your left.
The journey from Badajoz takes about 2 hours.
Approaching from Faro
If coming from Faro you need to find your way to A22. This will lead you into Spain on what becomes the A49/E1. Stay on this road until you are east of Huelva and turn north on the N435. Two kilometres before the N433/435 junction take the turn off on your left to Jabugo. At this point you have entered Jabugo.
The journey from Faro takes about 2 and a half hours.
Approaching from Lisbon
If coming from Lisbon you will need to find your way from the E1 to the IP8. This will lead you into Spain on what becomes the N433. You are getting close once you have reached Cortegana on this road. Jabugo is signposted for some 12 kilometres or so before you reach the town. You will come to a major intersection between the N433 and the N435 signposted to Huelva and Badajoz. Turn onto the N435 in the direction of Huelva. The road climbs for 2 kilometres through pine forest until you reach the turn off to Jabugo on your right.
The journey from Lisbon takes about 4 and a half hours.
